Banh Banh

This lovely little Vietnamese place in Peckham is a wonderful reprieve from all the fried chicken joints. It’s a 5-10 minute walk from Peckham Rye station, which makes it easy to get to if you’re taking the Overground.

We ordered a papaya salad to start, which was the best I’ve ever tasted. It was nicely seasoned and didn’t taste too fishy, which is something I don’t like about the way they do their salad at Pho. It also came with some black sesame crackers which were harder (and tastier) than your usual prawn crackers. Yum.

I ordered a bun bo hue, a glorious spicy beef noodle soup, which hit the spot, and my girlfriend ordered a beef pho, which had a spicy edge to it. Both dishes came with all the usual fresh trimmings.

The portion sizes were a little smaller than I’m used to, but we both felt satisfied afterwards.

I’d definitely go back, and I’m glad I found a little Vietnamese place in Peckham! 🙂
